A lady, we will call Stella, came in to Cutting Edge recently with severely matted and tangled hair. Stella had a perm a few weeks ago but did not follow her hairstylist’s instructions to properly maintain her curls. It took James and Satsuki two hours to comb through her hair with a detangling comb and cut away all the knots at the bottom to restore her hair back to its original beautiful condition. The most important thing to do when getting a perm is to follow your hairstylist’s instructions on proper care. Many people have the misconception that they would lose the curls or waves from their perm if they comb or brush it too often, but it is always important to detangle hair with a wide-toothed comb. A perm done at a professional salon will always hold its curl and hairstyle until the roots grow out which add weight to the hair but curliness can always be restored by wetting the hair. It is important to take a second afterwards to comb through your locks thoroughly before blowdrying with a diffuser to gently dry your hair or a hairdryer while gently twirling the curls around your fingers to shape. Ann, a busy young mother of two, came into the salon recently sporting a trendy boy cut with the coloured light brown with auburn highlights that is popular among Asian models featured in many of the Japanese magazines available at Cutting Edge.

With summer starting to fade away, Ann was seeking a fresh new look for fall.  She requested darker brown hair colour with subtle green highlights and a fun sophisticated hairstyle that was easy to maintain.

During the hair consultation, our  hairstylist, Satsuki Mizuno, assessed her hair carefully for colour and texture to determine the best way to achieve the colour she wanted while minimizing dryness and damage during the colouring process.

First Satsuki Mizuno lightly bleached her hair and then mixed several colours from our L’Oreal fall line to obtain a rich dark brown with subtle green tinge of colour throughout that contrasted nicely with her light brown eyebrows to draw attention to her lovely eyes.

Alan cropped and thinned pieces of hair throughout creating movement and volume to frame her face.  The entire length of her bangs was cut at an equally matched angle on both sides for greater versatility, so that the bangs could be worn and styled either left or right depending on whim and mood.

The subtle yet dramatic hairstyle was just the polished look Ann was aiming to achieve and she was delighted with the results of Satsuki Mizuno handiwork.  Welcome aboard, Satsuki Mizuno to the Cutting Edge team!
